London Attractions
London attractions are many and varied. In terms of festivals, London boasts of so many minor and major festivities that every month of the year, an average of 5 festivals are held which are very attractive to tourists. These festivals would usually draw in a record number of domestic and foreign tourists. One of the major festivals is the City of London Festival. This festival takes center stage on the City of London itself where the festival is celebrated for three to four weeks during the months of June and July. This is mainly a festival of music where the thrust would be in the rendition of classical music with a spattering of music like jazz and other kinds. This festival is a mixture of live bands, opera, film screenings, lectures and tours for visitors.
There are many other annual events and festivities that are annually held in London that would enliven the city all year round. These would include the Chelsea Flower Show, Wimbledon, the Proms, Boat race and the now popular Notting Hill Carnival. Varied attractions like the Lord Mayor’s Show, Trooping the Colour and Beating the Retreat are also points of attraction for many visitors coming to London. And because London is now a mixture of cultures, there are now annual festivals that would be themed to a particular culture every year.
Beside the festivals, the other attractions are the many historical landmarks that are in London. They have actually four sites that were classified as world Heritage Sites. These sites which are often visited by foreign as well as domestic tourists are the imposing Tower of London, the famous settlement of Greenwich, the ever beautiful Royal Botanical Garden Kew, Westminster Abbey and the huge St. Margaret Church. Other historical landmark attractions are the House of Parliament, Big Ben, St. Paul’s cathedral and Trafalgar Square. Of all these historical sites, the most visited by foreign tourist is the Buckingham Palace where visitors can witness the world famous changing of the Guards ceremony.
Aside from festivals and historical sites, there are still many attractions where tourists can visit, like the many museums where various works of great masters are displayed including the now famous wax museum of London known as the Madame Tussauds Studio. Another exciting and exhilarating point in London where tourists almost flock daily to is the London Eye or the Millennium Wheel which is the biggest and highest Ferris wheel in Europe. It is now one of the popular attractions that you can find in London.
